A mural to be painted along a long wall on a parking lot at 9th and Piasa in Alton has begun to emerge from the previously plain surface. The site is the location for the Farmer's and Artisan's Market every Wednesday evening and Saturday morning, and Alton Main Street is sprucing the lot with a river scene.
The theme of the painting is "A River Runs Through It" and it will be up to the artist to come up with the rest of the idea and how it will be done. Main Street Executive Director Sara McGibany says Pride Inc. recently jumped in and helped out

McGibany says the site is highly visible and should attract a lot of attention, and they've already set aside about $3,500 as a stipend for the artists work.
