The short-lived fish processing plant in Grafton may be reopening.  Operations ceased late last year following numerous complaints from nearby residents about the smell.  Now, a new company based in California has plans to use the facility for its fishing endeavors.

American Meixi Fishing Industry Inc. of California – plans to flash freeze the fish and ship them directly to China for processing.  Mayor Tom Thompson tells The Big Z the biggest beneficiaries of this new venture should be the local fishermen.

The facility is in a renovated building that was formerly used to store apples at the former Uncle Andy's Orchard on Illinois State Route 3.  Thompson says the facility may be operational by September.
