First-term state lawmakers are halfway through their first session in Springfield, and State Rep. Tom Demmer (R-Dixon) says being new and relatively young – still in his 20s – gives him a different way of viewing situations.  “You look around this chamber, we have 118 members. We have people in their 70s and their 60s and their 50s, and I think it’s just as important (to) have someone in their 20s who can represent the perspective of someone in the younger generation,” Demmer said.

State Rep. Stephanie Kifowit (D- Aurora), who is a veteran of the Marine Corps, says her experience in the military helped prepare her for her new role.  “Any kind of foundation in leadership skills, whether it be through the military or through training in school, is always an important for something like this,” Kifowit said.  The General Assembly will reconvene April 8.
