A new state law cracks down on parents who let underage kids drink alcohol. The law, sponsored by Senator Susan Garrett of Highwood makes it a misdemeanor crime for an adult to allow teens to drink booze at home, and in other locations.
Parents can already be held liable if a drunk teen leaves their property and injures someone or damages property. This new law takes effect in January. It also protects adults who try to break up a teen drinking party.
