Another measure that was supported by State Representative Dan Beiser will officially become a law on January 1st. The legislation known as House Bill 1689 increases the criminal penalties for the financial exploitation of an elderly person or person living with a disability based on the amount of money that is stolen.

The American Association of Retired Persons says that financial exploitation takes many forms, including simply taking money or valuables, giving away or selling posessions without permission and every forcing victims to sign over property.
