The Spencer T. Olin Golf Course at Gordon Moore Park has new management on the way. A competing proposal from Cloverleaf Golf Course and its subsidiary, Cloverleaf Golf Management was submitted after the meeting two weeks ago, but was withdrawn. The original proposal from businessmen Vern Van Hoy and attorney Tom Long has been accepted, and the deal is expected to be finalized in a week or so.
Alton Corporation Counselor Jim Schrempf says the original lease had an original start date of April 24, but as amended, the lease starts whenever both parties are legally able to sign the document.

The City Council also took action to eliminate a long-vacant position in the police department. The position of Major is gone, which should free up money in the budget and possibly a pension liability, according to Alderman Gary Fleming. And a new Park & Recreation Director has been named. Bethalto native Michael Haynes will lead the department after returning to the Riverbend following a stint with the St. Louis County Parks Department.
