Talk of a B-5 Business Zoning District in Godfrey brought out interested residents to a public hearing at the Lewis & Clark Community College last night. The district would be another tool to make it easier fir businesses to locate in the village as it gets ready for an expected business boom once Illinois 255 is completed.
Mayor Mike McCormick says the district would incorporate the land surrounding 255, plus some existing areas already zoned for business.
On the other hand, if the property owner doesn't want to change the zoning, it would stay as is. This could be the case if a residence in the area blanketed with the zoning were to sell. McCormick says in that case, property taxes would not be affected. The new zoning is not a done deal yet. It must still meet with board approval.
