The new Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court says she wants to make sure initiatives already started are working. Chief Justice Rita Garman of Danville is looking forward to her new role. "Justice Kilbride undertook the technology and I want to see us move forward so that we do have technology in every county and every circuit in the state of Illinois,” Garman said.

In 2001 Chief Justice Garman became the first woman from downstate Illinois to be appointed to the Supreme Court. She also was first in a number of other areas in her legal career including being the first female Assistant State’s Attorney in Vermilion County, the first female Associate Judge and Circuit Judge in the Fifth Judicial Circuit, and the first female to serve on the Fourth District Illinois Appellate Court.
