Gov. Pat Quinn announced this year’s installment of the “Illinois Jobs Now!” capital construction program, which this year will cost the state $486 million. The program has more than 200 projects that will improve roads and bridges from across the state. Quinn says investing in public works will help with jobs and the economy.

“We believe in public works, investing in roads and bridges, highway repair, railroads, as well as water systems and building new schools. That’s what public works are all about, and when the private economy needs a boost, the best way to do it is to invest in infrastructure and public works that will make our economy stronger,” Quinn said.
One part of the initiative is reimbursing contractors $10 an hour for hiring graduates from IDOT’s Highway Construction Careers Training Program. This program works to get women and minorities to work in the transportation construction industry.
