A plan to bring public transportation to the Tri Counties of Jersey, Greene and Calhoun is rolling toward reality. The plan is still in the final stages stages, and is being supported by the Tri-County Transportation Committee, Western Illinois University, and the U of I Extension Service.
Jennifer Russell, with the Extension Service, says this will not be a service similar to the transit systems in Madison and St. Clair Counties. It will be a "ride on demand" service, in which those needing a ride will call ahead.
Funding would come from the federal government, but the potential cost of the investment has not yet been nailed down. She says a year is a realistic goal of getting busses on the road.
