The U.S. House has voted to name the new Mississippi River bridge at St. Louis for Stan the Man, and for veterans. The newly-passed bill calls for the span carrying I-70 to be called the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge, a name that appears to have satisfied elected officials of both states. Missouri lawmakers backed honoring the former Cardinal, while Illinois officials wanted to honor veterans.
Musial seems to have covered both topics since along with playing professional baseball in St. Louis, he served in World War Two. The House bill was co-sponsored by Republican Rodney Davis of Taylorville and Democrat Lacy Clay of St. Louis. It now heads to the U.S. Senate for approval.
