The Madison County Coroner's Office has tentatively identified the person found inside a burning pick-up truck in Godfrey last week. Authorities say the body of 82 year old Evelyn June Walker was found inside the cab of the truck after the fire was extinguished. The report does not yet list a cause of death, but says no criminal activity is suspected at this time.
Walker lived at the residence at 303 Lakeside Drive in Godfrey, and a neighbor called 9-1-1 just after Noon on April 19 to report the fire. Once Godfrey firefighters arrived minutes later and put out the flames, Walker's body was discovered. The coroner's new release says investigators used past surgical interventions to establish a tentative identification in the case, but additional DNA tests are being conducted to provide a positive I-D. The death remains under investigation by the Madison County Sheriff's Office and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Division. The Illinois State Fire Marshall's Office continues to investigate the cause and origin of the fire.
