The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to accommodate drivers heading out of and into Alton by allowing two-way traffic on the upper lanes of Highway 67 in West Alton.  After floodwaters moved in Monday afternoon, drivers heading into Missouri this morning were forced to seek alternate routes, with many choosing Illinois Route 3 to Interstate 270, leading to long delays.

Missouri Department of Transportation Engineer Larry Welty says plans are being made to switch the upper lanes over to two-way traffic.

Welty comments

He says they will work with IDOT to remove median barriers to shift traffic on the Missouri side of the Clark Bridge to the upper lanes, to place some signs and lay down some striping.
