The longtime deputy circuit clerk of Madison County has been recommended to take the top job in the office.  Judy Nelson has served as the second in command in the office for the last 15 years and has been named by Madison County Board Chairman Alan Dunstan to replace the late Matt Melucci.  Dunstan will make the appointment today, and the full board is expected to approve it.

Nelson is a Collinsville resident and will hold the post for 5 months until the election.  Current Democratic Madison County Clerk Mark Von Nida is running for the circuit clerk's post, along with Republican John Barberis, Junior, this fall.  The post of deputy clerk will not be filled during that time.  Nelson has been serving as the acting circuit clerk since Melucci's death last month from cancer.
