Hundreds of people are expected at the Liberty Bank Alton Amphitheater for the annual National Night Out kickoff party.  Starting at 5:30pm, there will be music, prizes, free food and demonstrations by the Alton police and fire departments. 

Alton Police Chief Jason Simmons say the party includes a number of things people of all ages should find interesting.

The helicopter will be provided by St. Louis Children’s Hospital helicopter, which is stationed at Alton Memorial Hospital.  National Night Out is billed as a way to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, and to strengthen the ties between neighborhoods and local police, sending a message to criminals.  National Night Out wraps up at 8:30pm.
