Alton's edition of National Night Out is just a few days away.  The city has hosted its own celebration for more than 5 years, and many on the force say the event is one that they look forward to every year.  It is coming later again this year, in hopes of avoiding the hot summer temperatures that tend to plague the event when it’s held during the summer.

Alton Police Chief Jason Simmons says there will be food, games and community spirit at the kickoff at 5pm Monday night October 6 at the Liberty Bank Alton Amphitheater.  After that, there will be a variety of games and activities, including a dunk tank.

There will also be a bounce house, a dance, a K-9 demonstration, and a visit by the St. Louis County Police Helicopter.  Kids can also register to win an iPad mini or high-tech headphones.
