The Missouri National Guard is preparing to withdraw from the St. Louis area. Governor Jay Nixon says some of the troops will head home after more than a week of service following a grand jury announcement in the Ferguson shooting case. About half of the 22-hundred troops that were deployed last week remain on duty.
Nixon declared a state of emergency prior to the release of a grand jury decision not to indict police officer Darren Wilson who shot Michael Brown during a confrontation on August 9. The guard has been stationed at hospitals, shopping centers, police and fire stations, and utility substations.
