The Alton commemoration of the National Day of Prayer is today, while Bethalto is holding an event this evening.  The Alton event is being held inside Alton Square Mall in front of Hayner Library beginning at 8:30am.  The Rotary Club of the Riverbend is the host for the event.

Past President Lori Ehlers who is also manager of Alton Square, says the ceremony will be fairly simple:

Several area pastors and business people are scheduled to take part, with the overall theme of the day being “racial reconciliation.”   The service should last about a half hour and is open to the public.

In Bethalto, the public is invited to the Village Park at the band stand at 6:30pm for a similar event.  In case of rain, the gathering will be held indoors at the Bethalto United Methodist Church.  It's sponsored by the Bethalto Ministerial Alliance.
