The Alton Chapter of the NAACP will be hosting a back to school/stay in school event next month. On Saturday August 13th at 10:00 the NAACP will be providing free backpacks and school supplies to nearly 1,000 kids in K-12 grade levels. The event will be at James Killion Park on Washington Avenue. In addition to the free school supplies students will also receive a picnic lunch and hear speeches from community leaders about how important education is.

Donations are still needed for the event as it is anticipated that the need will be extremely high. Donations can be mailed to the NAACP office at P.O. Box 1216 - Alton, IL 62002 or be picked up by calling James Gray at 304-7655.
