The 20-year-old suspect in a recentAltonmurder has been captured inSouth St. Louis. Damond L. Riddlespriger of the 1,100 block of Putnam was a passenger in a car that crashed after fleeing from an attempted traffic stop earlier this week. He was taken into custody after the crash, at which time St. Louis Police identified him as the suspect in the killing of his cousin.
Riddlespriger is charged with 2 counts of 1st degree murder in the shooting death of 22-year-old Marlon Poindexter, on July 11. Poindexter died later that night. Alton Police Chief David Hayes says cooperation was key in establishing early in the investigation who they were looking for.
Poindexter was found shot in the head, allegedly by Riddlesprigger, outside an apartment in the 3300 block of Myrle Street, about a block off of North Rodgers. Police say he was one of three men who were sitting inside a car with Poindexter in front of an apartment on Myrle where the victim's girlfriend lives. Hayes says in many cases of this nature, witnesses are hesitant to talk to police, but that was not the case this time.
