A Wood River man is dead following a motorcycle accident Sunday afternoon. Police say 27-year-old Dustin E. Aldridge of the 300 block of Van Prater was traveling eastbound on Illinois Route 140 near Stanley Road when he lost control of the 2007 Suzuki GSX-600, hit a curb and a roadway sign just after 1pm.
He was taken to Alton Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead in the emergency department just after 1:30. He was not wearing a helmet, and died as a result of a fractured neck. Routine toxicology testing will be performed, and the Alton Police Department will continue its investigation into the crash. A police department spokesman says there were no road hazards they were aware of that may have caused the wreck. Funeral arrangements are pending at Marks Mortuary.
