A motorcycle rider is recovering following a late afternoon crash on Monday. The accident happened just after 5:30pm in front of Alton High School at the intersection of Humbert Road and Union School Road in Godfrey. Captain Will Dimitroff with the Madison County Sheriff's Department says the motorcycle was heading northbound and had the green light at the time of the crash.

Dimitroff could not go into details about the injuries, other than to say they were severe but not believed to be life-threatening. Transportation officials say drivers need to be aware of motorcyclists at all times, but add motorcyclists also play a major role in road safety. The names of those involved were not released.
Police urge the bikers to wear proper safety gear, take the free IDOT training courses, and obey the rules of the road. One-hundred-44 people died in motorcycle crashes in Illinois in 2012.
