A move by an admitted child-killer to reduce his sentence and get a new trial has been continued until April 25. 35-year-old Sean Starwalt of South Roxana was sentenced to 38 years in prison after admitting he beat his girlfriends son, resulting in his death. The mother is also facing a murder charge for her role in the crime.
34-year-old Patricia Cage (pictured) was indicted last April by a Madison County Grand Jury in the death Jeremiah Bradford in September of 2010. Madison County State's Attorney Tom Gibbons says she is due in court April 21.
Prosecutors say Starwalt repeatedly beat the boy after Cage left the the child with Starwalt, and allege Cage did nothing to help the child, even after he appeared injured upon her return. A physician testified at a coroner's jury hearing that the boy might have been saved had he been treated immediately.
