The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the Mississippi River has crested in Grafton and Alton, but it is going to be a slow process as the river levels start to fall.  It could be slowed even further with more rain falling over Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa on Tuesday, and rain forecast for our area today.  A levee breach occurred at approximately noon Tuesday on the Consolidated North County levee near West Alton.

Corps of Engineers St. Louis District Spokesman Mike Petersen says once the water recedes it will still take time to clean up the lower lanes of Highway 67 and says don't expect it to fall quickly.

Petersen comments

Public health officials remind while it's not illegal to play in floodwaters, it's not a good idea due to the potential for disease and injury.
