The issue of video gambling in Godfrey is still on the minds of many, including village trustees. Those supporting both sides of the issue have been passionate in addressing the Village Board over the past two months. There was another opportunity to speak on the topic at last week's Village Board meeting, and many people took advantage of the time.
Godfrey Mayor Mike McCormick has stated in the past that he feels the residents should decide whether gambling should be permitted at bars and restaurants. He says the people that spoke offered up the same reasons for their opinion as those that came before them at previous meetings.
Some board members support placing the question on the spring ballot, but there is apparently not enough support to go forward with an ordinance. One trustee, Mike Stumpf, has stated that if the citizens of Godfrey were to successfully petition the board to put it on the spring ballot, he would be fine with that.
