The second phase of the Central Street improvement project was completed last year and 2014 will include upgrades to the intersection and other side of the Bethalto thoroughfare according to Mayor Alan Winslow.

The Village Board approved a $92,700 contract with Oates and Associates for professional services on the project in June of 2013 and after applying available grant monies, the village will only be responsible for $18,540, or 20-percent of the total cost.

Mayor Alan Winslow says these types of projects wouldn’t be possible without money from outside sources.

The project will improve the intersection of Central, Prairie, and Mill Streets and upgrade the areas in front of the Post Office and Fire Department. Winslow says construction is scheduled to start this spring.
