Heroin related overdose deaths around Illinois continue to climb, as do non-fatal overdoses.  Illinois State Senator Andy Manar says he is pushing for the formation of a task force to examine the growing problem and come up with some solutions. He says there has been a staggering increase in heroin use over the past two years, with nine overdose deaths in the past 18 months reported in his native Macoupin County.

State Senator Andy Manar is on a task force designed to help combat the problem.  He says it's not the first time the state has had to step in for this type of issue.

Manar comments

The task force will be responsible for studying the use of heroin in high schools and suggesting programs to help aid schools in addressing teenage heroin use.
