The General Assistance program in Illinois is meant to help people who have fallen on hard times meet basic needs such as housing, utilities, food, clothing and medical care. The aid can be in cash, vouchers or medical assistance. In Godfrey, there has been an increase in open cases in recent months.
Godfrey Township Supervisor Doug Mueller:
He says right now there are 6 cases on the rolls and four more pending, whereas they normally only carry two or three people. If you would like to see if you qualify for assistance, call 466-3378.
