More cuts have been made at a local social service agency. Impact CIL in Alton, which has been offering peer support and disability services for more than three decades, has laid off three staff positions and furloughed four employees an additional day each week, after the entire organization began an office-wide Friday furlough policy in February.
That move resulted in a 20% decrease of salary and individual services to their consumers. Executive Director Cathy Contarino tells The Big Z the state is on target to eventually owe Impact CIL about $400,000.

She says two of the people that were laid off are independent living specialists that provide peer counseling, information referral, and job readiness training.
