Illinoisans who are on Medicaid and who live in nursing homes will help bear the brunt of the state budget cuts lawmakers approved in March, the nursing home operators say. The “him” in that statement is Gov. Bruce Rauner. Pat Comstock, executive director of the Health Care Council of Illinois, says she found out about the new number late last week. The only explanation she got from the governor's office, she said, was that many of the planned cuts were upon people and programs protected by other legislation; thus what she feels is an imbalance.
