Alton Mayor Brant Walker has made more appointments. Among them is a new head of the Public Works Department and a new Director of Development and Housing. Now heading up Public Works is Bobby Barnhart, and Greg Caffey will take over for Phil Roggio as the head of Development and Housing.
Roggio, however, will be staying on as a consultant for at least 90 days. The council approved a resolution allowing that to happen. Walker says Roggio's expertise will be called upon in his new role.
Barnhart has over 20 years of experience in working with the city as a private contractor, but this will be his first stint as a city employee. He will also take on the role of head of the Park and Recreation Department just as Brad Cunningham had been the past two years. Barnhart's first day on the job will be July 8. Comptroller Stephanie Elliott tendered her resignation, citing a desire to pursue other opportunities. Her replacement has not yet been named.
