The monkey that allegedly bit a young boy at the Bark in the Park event in Godfrey on Sunday is quarrantined, awaiting a decision from Madison County Animal Control as to its fate. This is uncharted territory for the agency, so the agency is awaiting guidance from the Illinois Department of Agriculture, as monkey bites are not covered by the Illinois Animal Control Act.
Godfrey Animal Control Officer Rick French says this is a new one for him too.
He says the 6-year-old boy was treated at the scene, and will follow up with his pediatrician. A woman reportedly brought her dog, and her pet monkey, to the event. Witnesses say the incident caused some commotion with a few dogs. No word on if any citations will be issued against the owner or why she brought a monkey to a dog event. Otherwise, the event went off with no other problems.
