An Alton woman who was reported missing Tuesday afternoon was found alive Wednesday evening near Mitchell. Alton Police report that property owners who were riding their horses found 82-year old Shirley Plunk with her minivan near Sand Road after her van had become stuck in the mud near the end of the roadway.

The property owners called the Madison County Sheriff's Department who then contacted the Alton Police Department. Plunk was transported to a local hospital for an evaluation.

She was reported missing just before 2 p.m. Tuesday by a caretaker after last seeing her Monday morning near her apartment on Muny Vista Court in Alton. The Illinois State Police and St. Louis County Police Departments also assisted in the investigation by providing the air support including the use of the Illinois State Police airplane and a helicopter from the St. Louis County Police Department.  Authorities say that foul play is not suspected but that the case remains under investigation.
