It's illegal to give alcohol to minors and the Illinois Liquor Commission says some people are getting away with the crime. Spokesperson Sue Hofer says parents can spend up to a year behind bars for letting their kids drink at home.
Hofer says it's sometimes hard for liquor retailers to determine if ID's are real or fake. Nonetheless, she says retailers need to do their part in cracking down on underage drinking by carding all customers. Those caught selling or giving alcohol to a minor face a 25-hundred dollar fine.
