The Mineral Springs Building on Broadway in Alton is gearing up for its centennial celebration one week from today (Saturday). The day will kick off with a ribbon cutting ceremony to launch its second hundred years at noon, and activities will run through 4pm.
Mineral Springs Haunted Tours owner Janet Kolar says lecturer and historian Wayne Hensley – who is also the resident barber at the Mall – will take you through the history of the building.

She says the workers will be dressed in period clothing from the 1920’s and earlier, with jazz music helping to set the mood. Mineral Springs opened in 1914 as a 90-room hotel and spa by the Luer brothers, but has also been a tobacco shop and was transformed into a mall in 1978.
