One person is dead after a milk truck rolled onto a vehicle on Highway 140 north of Edwardsville on Thursday morning around 10:25. The milk truck driver told authorities a tailgate fell off a dump truck ahead of him and went under his tires, bouncing his truck up and sending it toppling over on it’s side onto a SUV and both ended up in a field. The driver of the SUV died at the scene.
The deceased driver has been identified as 52 year old Lori A. Vinyard of Hamel. The driver of the milk truck, Greg Street of Bunker Hill, was heading westbound on Highway 140, east of Highway 159, when he says he had no time to react to a lift gate that fell off of a dump truck in front of him. Street did not suffer serious injuries and said he didn’t know his truck rolled over onto another vehicle until he got out to see if everyone involved was OK. A fourth vehicle was involved in the crash, but the occupants were not seriously injured. The lift gate reportedly fell from a dump truck operated by Foster Township. The Illinois State Police continues to investigate the accident, with Holiday Shores and Foster Township Fire Departments responding to the scene along with Alton Memorial Ambulance.
