The Levee Issues Alliance has reached a milestone in its project to repair the region's aging levees. Details have now been released on the construction schedule, as agreed upon by the Flood Prevention District Council and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A Countdown to Completion Clock has been activated on the alliance's website.
A coalition of business and civic groups, community leaders and residents was formed about two years ago to find ways to raise money and buy time to repair southwestern Illinois' Mississippi River levees. The next step will be to start moving dirt, and that will begin soon, according to Rich Conner, President of Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois.
To help keep the project and its schedule top of mind, a Countdown to Completion Clock will be activated on the Levee Issues Alliance website so that the public will be able to see at anytime if the project remains on schedule or if any issues are resulting in delays that threaten the project timeline.
