The Alton City Council is moving things along in the city's quest for more affordable housing in the Mexico neighborhood. A series of resolutions will allow the developers to begin a handful of new houses soon, with even more on the way. It is the next phase of the Hampton Place Homes project, which was launched a decade ago.
Another 30 homes in all will be built, but the latest action by the city council gets the ball rolling on the first seven. Alton Mayor Tom Hoechst this project proves home ownership is the key to neighborhood stabilization.
Areas that will see the construction in this round include the 900 block of Gold Street, 700 block of Hampton Street at Harrison, 1300 block of Taylor Avenue at Fletcher, and the 1200 block of Hampton at Taylor.
