A new metal detector is being shipped to the Jersey County Courthouse, and the old one will be moved to the County Administration Building. While there hasn’t been a rash of guns being brought to either facility, Jersey County Sheriff Mark Kallal says now is the time to be proactive.

He says a metal detector was recently found for about $1,800 less than expected, so the new unit will be placed at the courthouse. He says increasing safety at these meetings has bene on his mind since the Kirkwood, Mo. City Hall Shootings of February 2008.
