A Madison County Judge has ordered a psychiatric evaluation for an Alton woman following a confrontation with a police officer last week. Associate Judge Jennifer Hightower issued the order for 31-year-old Marquita Darris after she allegedly disarmed a Madison County Sheriff’s Deputy of his Taser on Sunday afternoon.
Police originally pulled over Darris after she allegedly ran a stop sign in Cottage Hills. Darris got into a confrontation with the officer and during the struggle, police say Darris got a hold of the officer’s Taser and used it on him several times. The deputy was able to separate himself from Darris and pulled his service weapon and Darris was placed into custody without further incident. An attorney for Darris told the judge his client was in need of psychiatric help and was suicidal. Judge Hightower ordered that Darris be taken to the Alton Mental Health Center for evaluation and lowered her bond from $100,000 to $75,000.
