Law enforcement agencies across the state have beefed up patrols ahead of the Memorial Day holiday. The Illinois State Police have joined forces with local departments as they look to reduce the number of distracted and drunk drivers on Illinois' roadways.
Illinois State Police Trooper Heath Bryan tells The Big Z these patrols will also include several special details and roadside safety checks throughout the state.

He says the number one factor in fatal crashes is driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Over the past few years, the ISP has removed well over 100 intoxicated drivers each year from Illinois roadways during the holiday weekend.
