Reports of  heat exhaustion and heat stroke become more prevalent as summer heat takes hold of the Riverbend and one local health professional is reminding those who take medications to check with their doctors before exerting a lot of energy in the heat. Laura Fowler, a Registered Nurse at St. Anthony’s Health Center, says patients who take medication to control their blood pressure should avoid working during the heat of the day.

Fowler also says that there are medications for a number of other conditions that can amplify the effects the heat has on an individual. She recommends putting off work until the evening hours if possible and contacting your primary care physician if you have any questions or concerns.
