The Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield is receiving top marks for training primary care physicians.  The Journal of Academic Medicine ranked SIU Med School 13th out of 161 schools across the country, for the percentage of graduates who enter into primary care practices and also who are practicing in medically underserved communities.

Kruse says sometimes that’s a challenge, since some students opt for more specialized careers, whether because of interest or the potential for higher pay than general practice.
