We’re getting a slightly clearer look at which areas of the state are showing the most interest in getting into the medical marijuana business.  In Illinois State Police District 11, which includes Madison, St. Clair, Bond, Clinton and Monroe counties, nine groups have applied to open pot cultivation centers and eleven groups have applied to open dispensaries.

In District 18, which includes Calhoun, Greene, Jersey, Macoupin and Montgomery counties, there were 7 applications for cultivation centers, but only one application for a dispensary.   There were almost 160 applicants for cultivation centers, and 211 requests for dispensaries.  The state will license up to 22 growers and 60 dispensaries across Illinois.  The first licenses may be awarded by the end of the year, with those businesses in operation sometime next year.
