If you are traveling to St. Louis this weekend, the McKinley Bridge will be an option after all. The original plan was to close the bridge for routine maintenance, but due to the forecast for rain and possibly storms over the next couple of days, the work has been postponed a couple of weeks.
Barry Gibbs, Supervising Field Engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation says there are no structural issues to deal with - this is just a cleaning and resealing of the concrete deck.
He says the ideal weather would be dry weather and a low dew-point. With a high dew point and rain situation, it delays the curing of the oil-based product used to seal the bridge.
