The opening of Illinois 255 to Humbert Road in Godfrey last week has the mayors of both Godfrey and Alton looking at the future with anticipation.  While the so-called Alton Bypass will cut 20 minutes or so off of travel time for residents of Godfrey heading to parts of St. Louis, Alton Mayor Tom Hoechst says this highway brings potential benefit to the tourism industry.

Hoechst comments

McCormick says the area is ripe for development, and as such, the village is embarking on a sewer extension that will eventually get the Humbert Road area on-line.

McCormick comments

Godfrey has made a number of moves in recent months to make the village more attractive to business development in preparation for the opening of the road all the way to Route 111, which is expected to happen in less than a month.
