The owners of the aging Eastgate Plaza shopping center are not promoting the property properly, according to the mayor of East Alton. Fred Bright feels the center still has potential, but would like to see the current owners sell to someone more eager to put money into a revitalization effort.
The plaza is in need of roof repair, and that leaky roof caused Illinois Wholesale Furniture to move out in 2013 after nearly 20 years in the village, according to Bright. He tells The Big Z the movie theater stands alone on the property, and while it seems to be structurally sound, it suffers from a lack of promotion.

Bright would like to see the owners create more signage for the theater, but says they seem to have little desire to do anything except collect rent. Numerous attempts to contact the owners of Eastgate Plaza for comment on this story have been unsuccessful.
