The Mayor of Grafton says he is "elated" over the results of Tuesday's non-binding referendum in which voters decided they want the city to remain a part of America's Central Port.  A contingent of aldermen and their supporters had indicated they wanted to follow Quarry Township's lead and be removed from the district, but the decision was made to put it to voters for advice.

Mayor Tom Thompson tells The Big Z a so-called "whisper campaign" to spread misinformation included claims the port district would levy taxes.

With about 370 ballots cast, voters in Grafton supported remaining with the district by a 56% to 44% margin.
