Marquette Catholic High School in Alton has experienced something not many other private schools in the area can claim...a 60-percent increase in enrollment over the past five years.   With more than 370 students preparing to begin classes next week, and a summer of remodeling the school and hiring more teachers, the schools principal is amazed at the turnaround.

The school had just 232 students five years ago, but the incoming freshman class of more than 120 has required the school to hire six new teachers.  Principal Mike Slaughter says the college-prep school doesn't have all the answers, but can offer quite a bit to students and parents:

Slaughter comments

He says most students are still coming from the Alton-Godfrey area, but they have about 80 students fromnorth St.Louis County.  Classes begin next week forMarquette, with the schools Homecoming planned for September 24.
