The first marijuana dispensary in the Metro East is now open. HCI Alternatives in Collinsville opened its doors for the first time on Monday at its location on Eastport Plaza Drive. The facility served about 50 customers, who had medical issues ranging from cancer to spinal injuries and multiple sclerosis.
Only Illinois residents who have registered with the state can make purchases at the facility. HCI sells 25 different kinds of pot and three forms of waxes or concentrates. The dispensary is the first in the area since medical marijuana became legal in Illinois in November. A second Metro East location is scheduled to open in Sauget.
